Athletic Marist centre Adam Halkett will continue his rehabilitation in Oamaru after returning on Sunday evening from Burwood Spinal Unit in Christchurch following a spinal injury sustained during Athies Citizen Shield fixture against Maheno on May 1.
Athletic Marist were leading Maheno 10-6 early in the second half when the accident occurred and, after consultation with Athletic coach Graham Pitches and Maheno coach Mark Wilson, referee Craig Kingan brought an early end to proceedings.
Halkett is unable to play any form of contact sport again after suffering a dent to the spinal cord and a bulging disk, leaving him with minimal movement in his arms and hands, but the 28-year-old is making a steady recovery.
