Waitaki Girls’ High School took home a trifecta of trophies from the South Canterbury hockey competition on Sunday.
Waitaki won both the 1st and 2nd rounds of the round robin competition and then finished the season with a 3-2 win over Roncalli College, finishing its campaign undefeated, with 16 wins and two draws.
Coach Philippa McIntoch praised her players’ impressive display.
“The game started at a great pace, with Roncalli scoring first,” she said.
“Waitaki evened up so it was one-all at half time. Both teams had scoring opportunities with both team’s goalies performing well under pressure.
“Their performance was awesome. The girls played really well. They hung in there and gave their all.”
The team now head to Cromwell next Sunday for the Jenny MacDonald secondary schools tournament.
