When Marty McCone swung from the tee on the second hole at the Tokarahi golf course, he knew he hit the shot pretty well.
It turned out the shot could not have been better, his October 24 swing giving him his second hole in one.
His first was 41 years ago – also at the Tokarahi course, but on the seventh hole.
McCone started playing golf on the course in the 1970s, just a few years after the Tokarahi Golf Club was officially formed in 1967.
He was made a life member of the club in 2007.
He also won the club championship for about the ninth time last month.
His first win was in 1977.
“I’ve lost more than I’ve won,” he said.
For the past 30 years, he has also been the greenkeeper at the course, tending to the greens and fairways, planting trees, and doing anything else that needs to be done to keep it looking tidy.
McCone said he loved everything about the nine-hole course in the heart of rural North Otago – ”it’s a beautiful course with the trees and the layout”.Running sport media30 Winter Outfit Ideas to Kill It in 2020 – Fashion Inspiration and Discovery
