North Otago riders are back in the saddle and ready for the coming showjumping season.
The North Otago Riding Club’s show jump series gets under way on Sunday, and more than 40 riders are expected to compete across the three events.
Riders of all abilities will travel from Timaru, Dunedin and throughout North Otago to compete in the classes, ranging from 40cm to 105cm.
Club secretary Tracey Sinha said riders selected their heights, and points were accumulated across the three events to find a champion.
It was a great way for all riders to start off their showjumping season.
“It’s open for children and adults.
“We’re just looking forward to seeing a wide variety of people and abilities,” Sinha said.
“It’s a useful starting point for the showjumping season and just to have a go at showjumping.”
The series usually attracted a good “cross-section” of junior riders and all were welcome at the series.
It was also “filling that gap” and providing a platform for the North Otago riders at home, she said.
The course, next to the Oamaru Racecourse, was designed by Chris Johnson and the committee was grateful for her support.
“We couldn’t do this event without her.”
The series starts on Sunday, and other events are being held on August 29 and September 19.
