Oamaru Swimming Club’s juniors are all set for the New Zealand Junior Championships at the Wellington Regional Aquatic centre next week following a successful year in the water.
The five swimmers will be swimming in a total of 30 events in all four strokes.
It will be 12-year-old Micah Hayes’ first time at the nationals after his first year of competitive swimming with the Oamaru Intermediate School student qualifying in seven events.
Totara School’s Iessha Mansfield, who is currently fifth seed in the 50m freestyle with only 1.32 seconds separating the 11-year-old from the top seed, will return to the competition for the second time having qualified in six events while 11-year-old Abbey Wilson will experience the champs for the first time.
It will be Weston School’s Alice Petrie’s second time at the nationals after the 11-year-old qualified in seven events, while Penny Keeling, of Duntroon School, will attend for the first time in nine events.
The competition begins next Friday and concludes on February 22.
