The third Active Kids Holiday Programme proved a huge success, with 40 children attending each day, totalling 200 throughout last week at the Waitaki Community Recreation Centre.
The youngsters had plenty of activities to choose from, including Ultimate Frisbee, Healthy Eating for Sports Stars, table tennis, triathlon, gymnastics, basketball, touch, netball and an Amazing Race held on Friday.
The children took part in two sports each day (Monday –Thursday) with the aim of introducing them to a wide variety of sports, some that they would have been familiar with and others they may not have experienced before said Sport Waitaki’s Kate Cartwright.
Cartwright said local donations were imperative in keeping the event accessible to the budding sports stars.
“We are hugely grateful to the Rotary Club of Oamaru for their generous donation enabling programme registration costs to remain reasonably priced for parents,” she said.
“Also a big thanks to Countdown Oamaru, TK Hire, Oamaru Intermediate School, Waitaki Girls High School and local volunteers who made the week’s activities possible.”
