Kurow Netball Club has won big, thanks to the Southern Steel.

Last week, the Waitaki Valley club was awarded $1000 and a training session with the Steel, after winning the Real Steel Otago Community Club Challenge Trophy.

Club members Anna Haugh, Rowan de Wit, Jessie Chapman and Brianna Butcher took part in a half-time entertainment competition, at the Steel’s match against the Central Pulse, in Dunedin.

De Wit entered Kurow after seeing the competition advertised by the North Otago Netball Centre. The club was selected alongside Southern, South Pacific Titans, and Taieri, all from Dunedin.

Different team members took part in two different events — a game of rob the nest, and a sprint relay.

The final challenge involved all four members, passing two balls between them, while moving up and down the court. They completed the last challenge twice, and Kurow won it both times.

The competition was tied and went to a penalty shoot›out. Butcher stepped up to sink the winning goal for Kurow.

Haugh said the group was stoked to win the prize money, and training session with the Steel.

Details for the training session were yet to be finalised, but she hoped to include the whole club in the session.

The competition was good fun, and the players ‘‘got into the spirit’’, dressing up in red tutus and club colours, Haugh said.
