Local duo make southern team

Waitaki Boys’ High School students Josh Caldwell and Logan Jopson have been selected for the Southern Under-18 Men’s Hockey team to compete at the national championships in Napier from July 6-12.

The Southern team is a selection of players from Southland, Central Otago, Otago and North Otago to form a southern regional team that competes nationally.

The southern side will be joined by Midlands, Auckland, Central, Northland, Canterbury, Capital and North Harbour to tussle it out for the national title.

The local duo attend training in Dunedin each Thursday evening and Sunday morning in preparation for matches against Canterbury in Christchurch on Queen’s Birthday Weekend.

It will be Jopson’s first year at under-18 level after being an Otago under-15 last year and is the first goal keeper to be selected from North Otago since 2004, while Caldwell is in his second year for the under-18 outfit.
