North Otago had a healthy representation at the 35th South Island RSA Snooker Pairs Championships held in Invercargill last week.
Teams from as south as Invercargill and as far North as Nelson competed.
Four of the eight North Otago teams qualified for the Championship Post Section play, which lead to a local clash in the first round as fourth seed pair Barry Ware and Alan Webb took on thirteenth seeds, Ivan Jeffs and Brent Woodford with Ware and Webb taking the encounter 2-0.
North Otago’s Vic Randle and Kirk Hopkins were also sent packing in the opposite quarter final fixture by third seeds Leti and Sola Taualofa.
Ware and Webb then caused the upset to the day by knocking out Doug Stuart and Ron Wilson 2-0 to book their first semi-final clash against fellow Oamaruvians and top seeds John Reid and Winston Tonkin, who duly spoiled the pair’s party with a 2-0 victory.
Tonkin and Reid went on to successfully defended their crown against the Taualofa brothers to notch their eighth title.
