The New Zealand Snooker Open held at the Oamaru Club and RSA was won by Christchurch’s Mark Canovan on Sunday, but the local contingent produced impressive performances.
Canovan downed Sam Bond 3-0 in his semi-final clash, whilst fellow Oamaruvian and national fourth ranking Jason Todd was beaten by Willy Florence 3-0 at the quarter-final stage.
Todd praised Bond’s display and improvement and is now awaiting conformation to represent New Zealend in Latvia in November.
“Sam was fantastic,” he said.
“He’s progressed a long way this year. He’s very dangerous.”
“It’s always disappointing to lose but I played pretty solidly for most of the weekend and it was just one of those games.”
Waitaki Boys’ High School student Healey White did not make it through the section play and entered the secondary plate competition where he lost out in the final to Bill Earle.
