Two teams of riders from the North Otago Pony Club will represent the region at the Springston Trophy this weekend.

Paige Hardwick and Maddy Neal are two riders from the club who are particularly excited about the competition.

“I know it’s going to be a tough course,” Hardwick said.

“It’s going to be good, though – it’s good that we’ve got two full teams.”

Both girls have been training for the event six days a week for several months.

“I think having to balance school, training, and riding is pretty hard, especially when we’re coming up to big events like this,” Hardwick said.

“It tends to be more riding than studying.”

Neal said lots of the younger riders from the club were also excited about competing in the event.

“I know the young riders are always looking forward to it,” she said.

“I think being named in the team is pretty big for them as well.”

This is Hardwick’s seventh year competing in the Springston Trophy, while it will be Neal’s third year competing.

Both girls were confident the club would perform well throughout the weekend.
