Mike Mullins was confirmed as North Otago coach for the 2014 campaign yesterday.
Mullins guided the Old Golds to Meads Cup glory in 2007 and narrowly missed out on a second triumph this year in a tightly contested 26-20 final loss to Mid Canterbury in October.
North Otago chief executive Colin Jackson said he was pleased the appointment had been made early on.
“We had a great 2013 and we’re looking to build on that,” he said.
“It’s great that Mike’s appointment has come well before the club season and we’re pleased with the coaching continuity going forward.”
Mullins said he is looking forward to another attempt at bringing the Meads Cup home.
“I’m obviously keen to continue the role,” he said.
“I’d love to win the Meads Cup again, we were close this year, it’d be great to have another crack and I’m hoping Jason Forrest and Troy Looms will be confirmed in their roles.
“North Otago have ambition and are always thriving to be the best, they’re always active and positive which is important for any small union.”
