Nine North Otago players have been selected to Hanan Shield teams following a successful tournament held in Ashburton last week.
Connor Loch, Mason James, Isaia Fairu, Isaac Tauwhare, Oliver Kinzett, Jack Williams, Jacob Pledge and Jackson Nelson will be part of the Under -65kg squad while Viliami Alofi was given the nod for the Under -48kg side.
The players were selected for their performances at the Ashburton tournament last week in which North Otago Under-12 and Under-13 teams competed against old foes Mid Canterbury and South Canterbury while Canterbury Country also offered some challenging competition.
The Hanan Shield teams will lock horns with Canterbury Metro on Saturday before travelling to Cromwell for the Regional South Island competition in a fortnight’s time.
Coach Wayne Kinzett praised the boys’ attitude and commitment.
“I’m extremely proud of them, they deserve to be in the there and I think they’ll do the Hanan Shield team proud,” he said.
