Oamaru Rowing Club rowers were in such inspirational form at the Meridian South Island Rowing Championships at Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel last weekend that the commentator asked “What’s in the water in Oamaru?” over the tannoy.
On Saturday, Oamaru Club rowers qualified for 16 A finals and two B finals before bagging a haul of six gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals.
Club captain Peter Scott praised the efforts of the rowers and hopes their strong form can continue in coming events.
“A truly outstanding performance rowing against the best rowers from all over the South Island,” he said.
“They really performed when it mattered, just two weeks out from the nationals and one month from the Maadi Cup.”
Pick up tomorrow’s edition of the Oamaru Mail for a full report of the regatta.
