Oamaru rowers set for Masters Champs

Oamaru Rowing Club masters rowers have been intensely training at the harbour over the winter months, preparing for the upcoming NZ Masters Championships at Lake Ruataniwha on September 21-22.

Spokeswoman Georgie Salter said the club had crews entered in most of the events and were intent on improving the six gold medals they brought home from last year’s South Island Champs.

Squad member Bronwyn Judge is hoping the larger squad will help support the continuation of the national regatta in the South Island every three years.

As well as training on the harbour, the masters travelled to Twizel for a weekend of training on Lake Ruataniwha, taking advantage of the first class facilities on offer.

Anyone interested in Masters rowing can phone Bronwyn Judge on 027 495 2030.

The Oamaru squad:

Bronwyn Judge, Georgie Salter, Liz Pine, Nicki deBuyzer, who have rowed together for 10 years; Ken and Lynda Perniskie; Kate Mihaere and novices Ken Larriman and Dagmar Rohrbach.
