Waitaki Boys’ High School basketball coach Ian Cathcart could not have asked for more from a recent overseas tour.

Cathcart and his keen lads are just back from a trip to Australia.

They played seven games, winning three and losing four, and the experience was of immense value to the boys, the coach said.

which can be hard to get around North Otago,” Cathcart said.

“Being together as a group really brought us together, and it’s a perfect lead-up coming into the business end of the season with Otago playoffs and South Island championships.”

Cathcart was too diplomatic to single out any player for praise.

“They all stepped up throughout the tour. Everyone performed well and got a lot out of the tour.”

Cathcart said Waitaki’s best performance was against Brisbane College, a game Waitaki won 76-44.

“Everything just clicked – we shot the ball well, executed our offence and played solid D against a pretty good team.”

Waitaki also put up a heck of an effort against Hillcrest Christian College, one of the leading basketball programmes in Queensland coached by Tall Blacks great Pero Cameron.

Cathcart said the boys also enjoyed the off-court sights and a chance to warm up at the beach.
