How does it feel to be the queens of the largest cricket region in New Zealand?Ask the Weston School girls.
The North Otago school has qualified for the national finals of the NZ Post Shield after beating Arrowtown School in the southern zone final in Queenstown on Friday.
Weston’s reward is a spot at the New Zealand years 6-8 tournament at Lincoln on November 24-26, where it will battle the best teams from the five other major associations.
The Weston girls qualified in style, too, crushing Arrowtown by 10 wickets.
Arrowtown batted first and mustered a total of 84 all out.
Star bowler Molly Loe led the Weston attack, with four wickets for 17 runs in her four-over spell. In reply, River Cunningham (36 not out) and Alice Petrie (14 not out) formed an unbroken opening partnership as Weston cruised to 85 without loss in the 12th over.
