Connor Sandri added to his impressive medal haul last weekend after winning the Lyttelton Urban Downhill Junior Men’s Championship.
The 17-year-old recently returned from the World Championships in Norway after competing in the United States and Canada.
Sandri said the Christchurch course was varied and challenging.
“It was through people’s backyards, downstairs and over shipping containers, through streets and over the top of roofs,” he said.
The former Waitaki Boys’ High School student is hoping to compete overseas again soon but also has national titles in his sights.
“I want to win all of the national rounds and make it over seas again to compete and be a bit more competitive, it was pretty intense overseas, it was pretty big events,” he said.
“I want to win nationals and get on to the world cup team would be my ultimate goal.”
Sandri said he enjoys the camaraderie within the downhill cycling community as well as the competitiveness and is now looking ahead to the nationals at Wanaka in January.
” I enjoy how relaxed and friendly it is, other sports it’s all real competitive, it’s still competitive but we’ll all still have chats.”
