The first South Island Pool Championships held in Oamaru since 2001 proved a resounding success with almost 150 players competing at the Oamaru Club last week and weekend.
The tournament began with the ladies’ event, which attracted more than 50 players in total from Nelson to Invercargill for the section’s biggest turnout in recent memory.
The ladies title was retained by the Geraldine duo of Jill Stevenson and Josie Seaton, who defeated Clare Shanaher and Jenny Stadnyk of Nelson 4-2 in the final before Christchurch’s Keri Low won the singles crown.
