Six teams have confirmed their involvement in tomorrow’s Maheno Sevens competition at Maheno Domain.
Kaikorai, Pirates, Maheno, Kurow, Valley and Old Boys will do battle for the $1000 on offer, following Alhambra Union’s withdrawal on Wednesday.
The 2015 competition is being organised by the Maheno Home and School committee as a fundraiser for the school.
Winners of last year’s inaugural Maheno Sevens tournament, Taieri, will not be returning to defend their title after pulling out of the competition earlier this month.
Committee member Jo Hay is confident the day will offer plenty of entertainment in a family- oriented environment, with a designated area for children that will include face-painting and a bouncy castle.
Local primary schools have been involved in a colouring competition, of which the winner will be announced on the day of the tournament.
The “Dash for Cash” race will return, with the fastest player from each side hoping to snare $100.
“We’re really excited about it, it’ll be really good,” said Hay.
“There won’t be as many games but it’ll still be a great pre-season hit out, they’ll be guaranteed three games and the top four teams will have four games.”
“It’s going to be a great day, there’s plenty to do for the kids, it’ll be a great family day for everyone to enjoy and plenty of food.”
The action will begin at 10am and costs a cold coin to enter. Eftpos will not be available.
