The Stride, Ride and Slide multisport event, specifically designed for two to five-year-olds, is returning for 2014.
The event will take place on February 9 from 10am at Takaro Park.
The course sees children gathering on the start line for a short run to pick up their bike or trike then making their way down the straight before dismounting and heading towards the giant slip-and-slide to the finish line.
Stride, Ride and Slide is now in its third year and Sport Waitaki’s Kate Cartwright believes the day is a positive way to introduce children to sport and activities.
“I love organising Stride, Ride and Slide. It is a great community event for our pre schoolers,” she said.
“The aim is to introduce them to a sporting event in an encouraging and positive setting where participation is key.”
The morning promises to be a great family day out with a bouncy castle, sausage sizzle run by the Oamaru Kindergarten Association and foam shapes and Jae’s Health Bar all on site at Takaro Park.
The cost of entering the race is $2 and each child receives a certificate of participation. Cartwright encourages parents and caregivers to register their child at www.sportotago.co.nz to avoid disappointment as numbers as limited.
