The unpredictable spring weather did not deter keen competitors from the Summer Series Fun Run and Duathlon on Wednesday evening.
In the 10km Fun Run, Paul Whitaker ran well to finish in first place, Whitaker is currently preparing for the Honolulu Marathon in Hawaii next month.
Jeremy Ferguson paced himself well and finished second while Jan Warrington placed first in the women’s section.
In the short course Duathlon, Ryan Smit was first across the line in a time of 23m 39s, followed by 8-year-old Camden Burge and 6-year-old Quinn Burge.
Sara Plunkett was first of the women, closely followed by Cherie Newlove.
In the teams section of the duathlon, there was some good competition between the McLay and Selfe families.
Lyndon and Indy McLay finished in 21m 59s with Jed McLay and Vandy Selfe finishing in 22m 17s while Daniel Highes and Kelvin Benny finished third in 23m 50s.
The full course duathlon saw ironman and adventurer Michael Sandri pedal his way to a solid win in 33m 07s, followed by Callum Ruddenklau and Jesse Young.
PJ Cleave was the best of the women’s section.
In the teams duathlon section, Connor Sandri and Riku Koyama were first followed by Blair and Korban Selfe, with Taz Selfe and Sjors Ens third.
The series continues until mid-December every Wednesday evening at 6pm at the Oamaru Harbour Playground.
