Tainui fall to fourth straight loss

Tainui’s poor run of results continued in Timaru on Saturday with a frustrating 2-1 loss to fellow table-toppers Wakanui Black in the South Canterbury premier hockey division.

The defeat was Tainui’s fifth of the campaign and fourth in as many weeks, sending Jared Ovens’ side to second place on the ladder while Wakanui Black propelled themselves to the points table’s summit.

Wakanui Black were 2-0 ahead at the interval before Shaun Cunningham netted for the Oamaru side, but despite continued pressure, Tainui could not level proceedings.
