The Portside Punch Charity boxing event is fundraising for a purpose-built Hospice House in North Otago.
This week, the Oamaru Mail is previewing a Portside Punch bout each day, ahead of the event on Saturday.
Fight ten of the evening will see Barry ‘The Beast’ Fox take on Gary ‘Razor’ Byrne in a scheduled three two minute round match.

BARRY ‘THE BEAST’ FOX
Sponsor: PGG Wrightson
A true blue born and bred local, Fox has has found the Portside Punch very challenging, but also very physically and mentally rewarding. With the loss of his brother last year, he only had to be asked once to be a part of this great event to help raise funds for the Hospice team here in Oamaru. In his own words he “takes his hat off” to the Portside Punch team especially the fellow contenders, coaches and organisers.
GARY ‘RAZOR’ BYRNE
Sponsor: Alliance Pukeuri
Byrne has enjoyed the new challenges required to be a part of the Portside Punch as it has been an experience completely different from the norm. Like many, he signed up to support Hospice and to be a part of something new and exciting while being given the opportunity to train with a different group of people and be pushed out of his comfort zone.
