Teams return for week three of holiday comp


The Duck Hunt Holiday cricket competition will return for week three tomorrow at the Waitaki Boys’ artificial turf.

Union’s 100 per cent record remained intact, with two wins last Saturday, but they will not be in action this weekend due to the bye.

The holders toppled Oamaru in their opening fixture last weekend with three balls to spare in the last over.

The Choccos batted first, notching 146 for 6 in 20 overs with Ben Cant posted 25 before being dismissed in the 12th over while James Mallinson recorded 37 and Regan George managed 46.

Glynn Cameron mustered 46, stalwart Duncan Drew tallied 26 and skipper Jeremiah Shields recorded 36 not out for Union.

George also bowled well, taking 2 for 28 off 4.

Albion downed Eastern in week two’s other round one tie.

The Mungas batted first and posted 171 for 4 with Jeremy Smith enjoying a good day with the bat, hitting 51, while captain Peter Cartwright recorded 24 and Matt Day produced 29.

Bowling for Eastern, Daniel Oldham took 2 for 24 and Brad Williams 2 for 43.

Eastern were all out for 104 for 9, Andrew Grub put on 20 and Dylan Thomas totalled 22 not out.

Union continued their unbeaten run in round two against Eastern with a 9 wicket in the 16th over.

Eastern were 109 for 5 with Brad Williams posting 58 not out while Brad Fleming bowled 2 for 5 off 4 for Union.

Sean Conlan top scored for the Blues with 66 not out and Dylan Edwards totalled 21.

Tomorrow will see Oamaru take on East Otago at 12.30pm in round one, while Albion lock horns with Valley. In round two, Valley will face Eastern.
