Round three of the Oamaru Liquorland Citizens Shield will kick off tomorrow with Valley taking on Athies in Enfield, Old Boys travelling to Kurow and Maheno entertaining Excelsior.
Last weekend’s fixtures offered a draw, an upset and a formality as Maheno and Excelsior took wins while Old Boys and Athletic Marist couldn’t be separated at Whitestone contracting Stadium.
Old Boys’ only loss of the campaign came in a tightly contested 28-24 battle against Athies in April but last Saturday’s clash was even closer for an 8-8 stalemate.
The holders’ relentless attacking game was not enough to pierce the firm Athletic defence that continued to soak up pressure throughout the tie.
Maheno produced the shock of the round with a 21-10 win over Valley for their third win of the season while Excelsior kept Kurow winless in a 24-10 defensively sound performance.
Saturday’s Citizens Shield week 11 fixtures;
Valley Vs Athletic Marist 1.30pm Enfield
Maheno Vs Excelsior 1.00pm Maheno
Kurow Vs Old Boys 2.00pm Kurow
