Top effort from runners


Waitaki Boys’ High School took eight runners to the Aoraki Cross Country event hosted by Mountainview High School in Timaru on Wednesday.

Henry Bower represented Waitaki in the Junior Boys’ event and finished eighth out of 46 runners over the 4.2km course.

Next up, the Waitaki contingent had Hamish Gough, Caleb Roberts, Jared Brenssell and Jesse Young in the Intermediate Boys’ race.

Roberts produced an outstanding race to cross the line in second place in a time of 16.53 minutes, over the challenging 4.2km course, while Brenssell and Young finished equal tenth.

The Intermediate group also claimedsecond spot overall in the intermediate teams section.

In the 6.2km Senior Boys’ race Callum Ruddenklau, Zac Johnston and Riku Koyama represented Waitaki well.

The trio got off to an impressive start and looked comfortable throughout the race.

Johnston crossed the line in 26.50 minutes for second with Ruddenklau right behind him in third position in a time of 26.51 minutes.
