Waitaki Boys’ High School produced a fine set of results the Otago Secondary Schools Duathlon Championships in North Taieri on Thursday.
The duathlon was well supported with 18 secondary schools from across Otago taking part with almost 100 competitors.
The junior and intermediate students’ course consisted of a 2km run, an 11km cycle followed by another 2km run while the seniors negotiated a 4km run, a 16km cycle and a 2km run.
The senior category hosted students under the age of 19, the intermediate group were under 15 while the junior section were year 9s.
Waitaki Boys’ student Tyler Cunningham finished second in the Individual Intermediate Boys’ race while Callum Ruddenklau took bronze in the Individual Senior Boys’ section.
Sixteen-year-old Riku Koyama placed fifth in the Individual Senior Boys’ race.
In the teams races – Caleb Roberts and Jesse Young were second in the senior team event while Jared Brenssell and Jake Gawn were sixth.
