The North Otago squad for August’s Pacific Island tour has been announced, with one player still to be selected.
The Old Golds will play three matches, two in Fiji against club side Nadroga and Pacific Islands University, before flying to Tonga, where they will take on a Tonga XV in Nukualofa.
Chief executive Colin Jackson said the tour would offer an opportunity to promote North Otago Rugby.
“This tour is a great opportunity to promote North Otago Rugby and our region and to further consolidate relationships with Fiji and Tonga Rugby,” he said.
The squad consists of five players from both Maheno and Excelsior, six from Old Boys and two each from Kurow, Valley and Athletic Marist.
Coach Mike Mullins said the selected players offered a variety attributes.
“We have selected a mix of experience and youth and the tour will be a perfect platform to build the depth of quality rugby players in North Otago.”
The tour will begin on August 2 and end on August 13.
