The Oamaru trapshooting contingent were on target at the New Zealand Youth Games in Hamilton over the weekend.
Waitaki Boys’ High School’s Jack Mansfield picked up a gold medal in the single rise, then took out silver in the points score event and gold in the two man skeet team competition with Rylie Rooney.
Rooney then proved the best of the skeet shooters, picking up a gold medal in the singles competition.
James Hutton was also in fine form, winning a silver and bronze in skeet and two man skeet respectively with his teammate Tim Craig.
WBHS sports co-ordinator Paula Symes praised the students’ efforts.
“These results are obviously outstanding and WBHS are very proud of the boys’ achievements,” she said.
Not to be outdone, sharpshooting St Kevin’s College students Georgia Blair and Jessie Fraser also produced sterling performances.
Blair notched a bronze medal in the ladies’ point score while Fraser took out bronze in the ladies’ trench. The duo also won silver in the ladies’ team trench event.
