Valley to celebrate 25 years

Valley Sports Club will celebrate its 25th birthday this weekend with members past and present coming from far and wide to enjoy the festivities.

Th events will begin with a social gathering at the Valley Clubrooms in Weston from 7pm on Friday night before a day of sport ensues on Saturday.

The action will kick off with JAB Rugby at 9.30pm followed by netball at 11.30, before the Valley Presidents Grade team takes on Athletic, with the day’s sporting action ending with Valley’s Premier Grade team locking horns with Kurow.

Saturday evening’s celebrations will be held at the Loan & Merc where a jersey auction will take place.

The festivities will end with a barbecue at the Valley Sports Grounds from 11am on Sunday.

Club secretary Fiona Cooper said the amount registrations had been substantial and is looking forward to the celebrations.

“We’ve got a couple from Australia coming, a rugby guy from Wellington, another from Rotorua,” said Cooper.

” Saturday will be a great club day, we’re hoping everyone hangs around and enjoys it.

“We’re expecting 120 on Friday, 170 at Loan & Merc on Saturday evening, there will be a cutting of the cake and formal speeches and a jersey auction.”
