Waitaki Boys’ High School Cricket First XI will defend the Payne Tempero trophy for the first time against Union at Milner Park on Saturday.
The school boys toppled Valley by 113 runs last weekend in Weston to win the coveted prize for the first time.
Despite a fine team effort, skipper Nathan Smith’s bowling display was the stand-out performance of the encounter.
The Otago under-19 player took 7 wickets for 21 runs in a dominant performance.
Waitaki Boys’ sports co-ordinator Paula Symes credited the team and Smith for the impressive haul.
“Well done Waitaki First XI and brilliant work Nathan – a superb performance.”
