The Oamaru Multisport Club will be holding the Weekend Warriors and Off the Couch series for three weeks from tomorrow, continuing on February 11 and 18.
For the first time, the events will incorporate both the North Otago Primary Schools and the North Otago Secondary Schools Championships.
The Off the Couch and primary school events will consist of a triathlon of a 100m sea swim in shallow water, a 4km bike ride and a 0.7km run or walk, or a duathlon of a 1.8km run or walk a 4km cycle followed by a 0.7km run or walk.
Weekend Warriors will provide more of a challenge, with a 300m sea swim, 12.5km bike ride and a 2.5km run in its triathlon and a 1.8km run, a 12.5km cycle and a 2.5 km run in the duathlon.
Event organiser Diane Talanoa is hoping plenty of youngsters will participate in the primary schools championships.
She says all are welcome, with the Off the Couch programme offering a course suitable for those of all fitness levels and ages.
“It’s the first time we’ve incorporated the primary schools champs with the Off the Couch, so we’d really like to ge the primary school kids along,” she said.
“With Off the Couch anyone can have a go.
“You can walk, run or sprint, it’s just about having a go and it’s suitable for everyone.”
Inquiries can be made to organisers Diane Talanoa on 434-7348 or 021 0815-0688 and Adair Craik on 437-2031 or 021-309-439.
Participants can enter as an individual or as part of a team. Awards will be based on the overall results of the series.
