WGHS kick-starts cup campaign


The Waitaki Girls’ High School Hockey 1st XI have kick-started their Jenny McDonald Cup tournament in Cromwell with two impressive wins.

On Monday, the side played their first matach against St Margarets’ going down 2-1 but redeemed themselves in the second match against Cromwell High School, slotting four goals, with Cromwell unable to get points on the board.

Yesterday, the side played St Kevin’s College and won 4-0, with Georgia Proctor slotting two of the goals.

Today, the side play St Hilda’s and Buller High school.

The school’s senior netball team is competing in Christchurch at the South Island Secondary Schools Tournament.

Playing in the B Grade, the side have started the tournament strongly.

On Monday, they played an invitational team and won 40-16.

For their second Monday match-up, the team played Roxburgh High School, winning 47-29.

The side added a hat trick, beating Mt Hutt yesterday, 52-32.

They have moved through to the top 16.
