Oamaru-based driver Matthew Williamson has picked up the junior drivers title in Christchurch following a sterling season.
The 23-year-old notched 113 wins in all and is now in esteemed company as one of four junior riders to reach the century milestone along with Zac Butcher, Mark Jones and Dexter Dunn.
Williamson said he gave his final year as a junior his all and is now looking to produce similar form at senior level this term.
“I was second last year and this year was my last year as a junior so I had to go in all guns blazing,” he said.
“Things had been going well the last few years.
“I can’t think how many horses I used this year and was used a lot more and had a lot of support.
“I hope to win some more big races but I doubt I’ll get near as many as this year.”
