Wins for Valley, Union and Oamaru/St Kevin’s

Week four of the Liquorland Borton Cup saw Valley topple Albion, Union return to winning ways against Waitaki Boys’ High School and Oamaru/St Kevin’s down Eastern.

Oamaru/St Kevin’s recorded a 10 wicket win over Eastern in Palmerston.

The Choccos won the toss, chose to bowl, and captain Matt Murphy struck immediately with three wickets up the top.

From then Eastern struggled and scored 116 all out with Andrew and Cameron Grubb both making 33.

Murphy stood out with 3/15 while English professional Ed Hall claimed 3/11 while the other bowlers took a wicket each.

With the bat Oamaru/ St Kevin’s made 118/0 with Jimmy Mallinson and Ben Cant knocking the runs off in less than 20 overs.

Cant finished on 67 not out while Mallinson made 41 not out.

Valley maintained their 100 per cent record and a place at the points table summit with an 8 wicket win over Albion in Weston.

The Mungas batted first and mustered 150.

Geoff Mavor took 3/40 while Francois Mostert notched 2/13 and Nick Kelland 2/27.

Valley chased down the visitor’s total in the 28th over with Mostert posting 82 not out and Tom Squire recording 30 not out.

Union returned to winning ways at King George Park.

The home side declared on 300/9 against a weekend Waitaki Bowling attack after Nathan Smith injured his ankle in the warm up.

The school boys were without other key personnel due to sickness which forced manger Hamish McMurdo in to action.

Union’s Sean Conlan (103) was in inspirational form with the bat while Paul Johnston posted 40 and Jeremiah Shields 30.

WBHS were all out in the 34th over with Stephan Grobler (33) the standout with the bat.

Brad Fleming was chief destroyer for Union taking 5/29 while Isaac Shields produced 2/16.

Round five will see Albion welcome Union, Oamaru/ St Kevin’s lock horns with Waitaki Boys’ High School and Valley take on Eastern.
