Oamaru swimmers get a rare opportunity to defend their home water this weekend.
The Oamaru Swim Club and the Waitaki Aquatic Centre host the third round of the Otago regional winter series on Sunday.
It is the final round of the series, which has had stops in Balclutha and Alexandra.
The meeting will be used as a qualifier for some of the swimmers aged 13 and over for the New Zealand short-course championships in October.
For the younger swimmers, it is an opportunity to qualify for the new Otago winter short-course championships and the Otago 12 and under long-course championships in December.
About 100 swimmers from Dunedin, Cromwell, Queenstown, Temuka and Timaru clubs are expected to join the Oamaru swimmers at the event.
