The director of a New Zealand luxury travel company says Oamaru is a perfect destination for overseas tourists.
Ahipara Luxury Travel sends people from all over the world to New Zealand for their dream luxury holiday and offers the opportunity to go on a custom-made trip to Oamaru.
Director Jean-Michel Jefferson, who is based in Lauderdale, Central Otago, said Oamaru is the perfect location as it epitomises what the company is after in a town – a place away from the mass tourism destinations that offers a real in-site into New Zealand.
“We pride ourselves as being ahead of the bandwagon.
“Oamaru is well up there. I think it’s lovely.”
The company started about nine years ago and has people from many different countries coming to New Zealand with about 30 percent from Eastern Europe, 30 percent from Western Europe, 30 percent from North America and 10 percent from South America.
Ahipara Luxury Travel has been working with Oamaru’s Pen-y-bryn Lodge to offer luxury experiences for their clients.
Pen-y-bryn Lodge co-owner and host James Glucksman said working with Ahipara had been great because it is just another example of how Oamaru is becoming a destination rather than a place people just pass through.
