Recently filmed Tourism New Zealand footage of the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail will help promote it to a wider audience, A2O marketing and sales officer Jason Menard says.
Small Town Media, a contractor for Tourism New Zealand, spent the weekend filming sections of the trail to be used in international marketing campaigns and were in Oamaru on Monday night to complete it.
Mr Menard said having this footage would help broaden A2O’s market as Tourism New Zealand have an ability to promote in more areas around the world.
“It’s just going to broaden our reach.”
Because they had only three days to film (from Saturday to Monday) they could not capture all businesses or parts of the trail, he said.
“My role is to promote all official partners…ideally I wanted them to promote all the businesses.
“But they captured a pretty good snapshot of what the trail can offer.”
But all businesses, even those not featured, would benefit from this footage promoting the trail internationally, Mr Menard said.
Small Town Media production manager Caroline Biddles said the shooting went really well.
“We were really lucky with the weather and everyone was really nice.
“Tourism Waitaki did a fantastic job assisting with the shoot.”
One interesting part of the trip was talking to locals along the track who told the crew they’ve spoken to cyclists from around the world who believe that A2O is a superior trail, she said.
Tourism New Zealand intend to film all 23 of the New Zealand Cycle trails.
The footage will be used to promote cycling internationally and will predominantly be aimed at the Australian and USA markets.
