Business owners Tim Arthur and Ron van der Hilst say the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) did not take note of submissions received on proposals to improve traffic safety on State Highway 1 in the North End shopping area of Oamaru.
The NZTA said on Tuesday it would install traffic lights and a signalised pedestrian crossing on the existing pedestrian crossing outside Mr Arthur’s business, Arthur’s Antiques & Collectables, and Mr van der Hilst’s business, Something Nice, on the other side of the Thames St Highway.
As a result of the work, both men would lose a carpark outside their shops.
