Work to redevelop the former Oamaru Mail building into new premises for the BNZ is under way.
The back of the building was removed at the weekend and the rest of the structure, the front facade, will be retained and incorporated into the new building, which is due for completion in the first half of next year.
The building was constructed in the 1930s and is owned by JBL Properties.
The new structure will comprise two levels and will be 100 per cent of the required building standard for earthquake protection.
