Ahead of Saturday’s third and final Bledisloe Cup test in Dunedin, Oamaru school pupils got the chance to get up close and personal with the coveted cup this week.
In association with NZRU, the North Otago and Otago Rugby Football Unions and Sport Waitaki the Bledisloe Trophy Tour arrived in North Otago on Tuesday.
The cup was only in North Otago for a few short hours, with viewings at Papakaio School, Pembroke School and Fenwick School. A number of children from other schools, such as Glenavy and Oamaru Intermediate School, also popped in to get a glimpse and a photo.
Sport Waitaki’s Kate Cartwright said it was great for the children to see such a prestigious trophy come to their schools.
“It was cool, especially in the build up to the test match in Dunedin this weekend,” Miss Cartwright said.
“The ones that knew rugby were quite stoked to see it.”
