Ex Oamaruvian Malcolm Grant says being knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List hasn’t yet sunk in.

Sir Grant is now based in London and was recognised for his services to higher education.

He is currently the president and provost of University College London, which is the United Kingdom’s third oldest university.

Sir Grant, who was born in Oamaru, attended Oamaru South School, before becoming a student at Waitaki Boys’ High School.

”It had a special quality, especially the Hall of Memories and the fabulous pipe organ, which I used to play regularly,” he said.
