Cameron Nimmo wants your vote.
Not for the upcoming local body elections, but for a TSB New Zealand before and after renovation competition.
Mr Nimmo’s impressive transformation of an old bathroom and bedroom into a kitchen at his Avon St villa has been chosen in the top 10 of the national competition by The Block NZ challenge host Shelley Ferguson.
Mrs Ferguson will select her favourite renovation for the Judge’s Favourite Award and a cash prize of $2000. The New Zealand public can also vote for theirs. The before and after renovation with the most public votes at midnight on September 5 will win the Voters’ Favourite Award and $2000.
Mr Nimmo heard about the competition on Instagram, where he has been documenting his renovation progress (@avonvillaoamaru) as he has been slowly but surely adding charm, character and love back into the early 1900s Oamaru villa he bought five years ago.
“I would usually just scroll past, but decided to give it a shot because the possibility of winning up to $4000 would be very handy to finish off a few jobs,” he said.
He entered the kitchen because it was one of the most dramatic changes to the house.
“It usually gets a good reaction with people seeing it for the first time,” he said.
“The kitchen was originally on the dark side of the house and had no outlook at all, so the transformation in terms of light, outlook and indoor-outdoor flow are huge. It’s really made the house more liveable.”
Mr Nimmo was happy to have just made the top 10, but said the prize money would “be helpful to finish off a few more spaces”.
“[And] I’m extremely competitive, according to some of my friends,” he said.
On Wednesday, Mr Nimmo was in second place, on 848 votes.
He thanked everyone for their support so far.
