Decreasing the cost of electricity will allow for employment opportunities says Labour finance spokesperson David Parker.
Mr Parker spoke to more than 30 people in Oamaru yesterday about the party’s NZ Power policy.
He said if businesses aren’t spending so much on electricity, there will be an opportunity to employ more workers.
“If you’ve got competitive electricity prices…people can afford to employ people,” he said.
He said he predicted that the Oamaru census results will be a sobering read, in regards to the change of the population.
He discussed the job losses at Summit Wool Spinners and said the freezing works employ fewer people than in the past.
