Play will resonate with North Otago

Can you make a country boy love the city?

Veteran playwright Roger Hall’s show You Gotta Be Joking, follows Dickie Hart, who along with his wife, sells up the back country farm to live in the city for some culture.

Dickie Hart is played by Tim Bartlett, who said North Otago would be able to relate to the story.

“I’m sure that people will know a character like Dickie,” he said.

“They will recognise and hopefully have a laugh at themselves.

“It’s a real comedy.”

As you can imagine, Dickie finds himself like a fish out of water but slowly starts to make connections with people in the neighbourhood.

“It’s a lovely script,” he said.

Bartlett said director Geraldine Brophy had some great ideas for the production.

“It’s a good family show, that’s for sure,” he said.

The show is on November 12 at 7.30pm.
