Waitaki producers enter in taste test

North Otago bacon and ham producers Waitaki Ham and Bacon are among the 200 entries for the 100 per cent New Zealand Bacon and Ham competition, which will be judged in Wellington on Friday.

Waitaki Ham and Bacon co-owner Sue Morton said the company had entered three bacons and a ham this year.

“We have one streaky bacon, one middle eye bacon, one shoulder bacon and one boneless ham,” she said.

“We will be up against producers from all around New Zealand, plus we will be part of the Consumers’ Choice Award, which has a different range of palates from the judges.

“Feedback from the public is particularly vital because it helps us build towards the next level of our business.”
