On Monday, as Seddon was recovering from the 6.5 magnitude earthquake which hit the day before, Oamaru was also shaken.
GeoNet records show an earthquake, classified as “weak”, was located 45km east of Oamaru.
The magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit at 11.45pm on Monday night and was 133km deep.
Feedback on the Oamaru Mail Facebook page indicated that it was not widely felt in Oamaru, but two people that were awake at that time reported feeling a slight shake.
Yesterday, there was also a report of an earthquake 120km east of Waimate at 12.20pm.
It’s intensity was “light”, as approximately magnitude 4.3, at a depth of 58km.
GeoNet reports also show a magnitude 5.0 earthquake hitting 25km east of Waimate, at a depth of 133km, at 7.22pm on Sunday.
