Storm clean-up continues

The clean-up from last week’s strong winds continues in Waimate, with council offering free green waste disposal.

The wind wreaked havoc last week, bringing down trees, ripping off roofs and cutting residents off from power.

Waimate District Council chief executive Tony Alden said the district was fortunate enough to obtain the service of specialists and forestry crew.

“Work is progressing well in a number of sites,” he said.

It’s not yet known how much the storm will cost in repair and clean-up work.

With the wind flattening large trees, Mr Alden said the council was offering free green waste disposal until September 24.
