Meridian Energy won’t have its rates reduced by the Waitaki District Counil, after the councillors voted to decline the company’s requests at its extraordinary meeting yesterday.
Earlier this month Meridian submitted on council’s Draft Revenue and Finance Policy, when it said it believed the amount it was being charged in rates for its six hydroelectricity stations in Waitaki, about $937,000, was not reasonable or fair.
As well as those general rates, Meridian will also pay roading rates of $413,000, a lakes camping rate of $151,000 and a Civil Defence rate of $37,000.
